You know those boring annual reports you get every year? Those big ol’ booklets full of numbers no one can explain and jargon no one wants to read? Well, the city of Minneapolis didn’t want to do that (bravo), so we turned that opportunity into a full-scale, live event.

But you can’t wing something like that. So they brought me in to create a script and game plan the event. I wrote a 50 page script, crafting dialogue for the likes of CEOs, the Mayor of Minneapolis, the Governor of Minnesota, the GM of the Minnesota Twins and a whole lot more.

If I can do that for an entire city, imagine what you and I could create.

What’s the worst thing you can do as a salesperson (besides quote Glengarry Glen Ross too much)? Easy. It’s talking too much due to a lack of defined messaging. Meet Minneapolis, the convention and visitor’s bureau, felt this problem when they’d spend a half hour of an hour sales call explaining what they do. They were losing sales because they couldn’t get to their USP.

That’s where I came in. I wrote a four minute video that concisely and light-heartedly described what the bureau does. The result? Prospective clients indicated they understood what Meet Minneapolis does, and sales started flowing in. What used to take 30 minutes now took four. Video is a powerful tool to tell a story quickly, and this was a prime example of that.

Alright, alright. I know this is the third thing I’ve posted about Minneapolis, but I’m not ashamed. I love this city, so I’m proud of the work I did for them to help bring in visitors and grow the job force for this awesome destination. And this video let me flex a little creative muscle.

The city wanted to bring in visitors, but the same old “panning across the skyline and showing people walking and smiling” just wasn’t cutting it. So I partnered with the Brave New Workshop to write a video that showed the city in a different light. (Hey, don’t hold the shameless brand-drops against me. The contract said they got verbal mention in the video.).

The most-shared and commented-upon video the city has ever created. I’ll write you videos that people love.
